Preferred Repairs for Inconsistent Databases

The objective of this paper is to investigate the problems related to the extensional integration of information sources. In particular, we propose an approach for managing inconsistent databases, i.e. databases violating integrity constraints. The presence of inconsistent data can be resolved by “repairing” the database, i.e. by providing a computational mechanism that ensures obtaining consis...

Representations for Disjunctive Deductive Databases

The concepts of the dual and complementary databases as alternative representations for a given disjunctive deductive database, DB, are introduced. The dual database results from interchanging the occurrences of OR and AND operators in the positive clause representation of DB. The complementary database is deened to have as minimal models the complements of the minimal models of DB relative to ...

Disjunctive Databases via ModelTrees

In this paper we study the problem of updating disjunctive databases, which contain indeenite data given as positive disjunctive clauses. We give correct algorithms for the insertion of a clause into and the deletion of a clause from such databases. Although the algorithms presented here are oriented towards model trees, they apply to any representation of minimal models.

Preferred Repairs for Inconsistent Databases Example 1

The objective of this article is to investigate the problems related to the extensional integration of information sources. In particular, we propose an approach for managing inconsistent databases, that is, databases violating integrity constraints. The problem of dealing with inconsistent information has recently assumed additional relevance as it plays a key role in all the areas in which du...

Disjunctive Deductive Databases

Background material is presented on deductive and normal de-ductive databases. A historical review is presented of work in disjunctive deductive databases, starting from 1982. The semantics of alternative classes of disjunctive databases is reviewed with their model and xpoint characterizations. Algorithms are developed to compute answers to queries in the alternative theories using the concept...
